Village Hall Dates for your Diaries in March and April

Mar-Apr 2018MARCH  has seen:

  • the postponement of the L.R.A Quiz Night (in aid of the Jubilee Field) – now re-scheduled for Sat 5 May.
  • a warm and cosy matinee showing of ‘Paddington 2’ – brilliant film, delicious ice cream and enjoyed by children and grown-ups alike!
  • another very successful Easter Bingo evening, run with great aplomb by Francis and Rose Dillon-Thiselton.

APRIL offers the Horticultural Club’s Spring Show, (STOP PRESS: change of date to Thurs. 19 April); and the LRA AGM, when we’ll hear the latest news of what’s going on in the Jubilee Field.

Snow – and a Postponement

Snowy Lurgashall 2 Mar20182 March 2018 – Lurgashall Village is carpeted in snow and looks wonderfully picturesque, but…. it’s not easy for many villagers, and so neighbours are out in force to make sure that everyone is safe, warm and well.

Meanwhile, the ‘makeover’ to the Village Shop continues, in spite of the wintry weather, and the large team of volunteers are well on schedule to have the shop re-furbished, re-stocked and open again for business on Monday 5 March.

However, one casualty of the snow – our village is virtually cut off – is the LRA Quiz Night on Sat 3 March.  This will now be re-scheduled for sometime in May.

Shop Volunteers’ Meeting at Village Hall – Tues 20 Feb, 7.30pm

Shop meeting 20 Feb 2018It’s now only a few days before the Lurgashall Village Shop re-opens shop as the village’s very own Community Shop, and we cannot do this without the help of volunteers.

Following on from the public meeting on 8 Feb., all those who offered to volunteer with the village shop – in whatever capacity – are invited along to a meeting at the village hall on Tuesday 20 February, 7.30pm.  Doors and bar open 7pm.

Film Night – “Churchill” – Wed. 7 February

This outstanding 2017 drama starring Brian Cox as Churchill chronicles the British Prime Minister’s life in the run-up to the Normandy landings of June 1944 (code-named Operation Overlord) during World War II. Fearful of repeating the disastrous invasion of Gallipoli in 1915, Winston Churchill attempts to stop the planned invasion of Normandy in 1944. Only the support of Churchill’s wife, Clementine (brilliantly played by Miranda Richardson), can halt the prime minister’s physical and mental collapse.

Lurgashall Village Hall awarded highly respected Hallmark Quality Awards

The following press release was issued on 22 January 2018 by Action in rural Sussex:Action-in-Rural-Sussex-logo

Lurgashall Village Hall in West Sussex has been awarded prestigious Hallmark Quality Awards in both Administration and Health & Safety Compliance by peer assessors on behalf of Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE).

Hallmark CertificatesThis is a huge achievement for Lurgashall Village Hall as it was on the verge of closure 12 years ago due to lack of use and an expiring lease. Hard work by the local community, together with support from Action in rural Sussex’s Village Halls and Community Buildings Advisory Service led to the negotiation of a new lease, as well as the raising of funds which covered the costs of a refurbishment and installation of a new kitchen and heating system.

Now used regularly for a wide range of activities including a luncheon club, monthly teas, Pilates classes, meetings of local organisations and for children’s birthday parties, this village hall is now truly at the heart of the Lurgashall community.

This is a timely award for the village hall as the 22nd January sees ACRE’s first ever #VillageHallsWeek – an annual celebration of the 10,000 village halls and other community buildings which exist at the heart of England’s rural communities.

What’s on in January 2018 at Lurgashall Village Hall
